Review of Epic Spell Wars of the Battle Wizards

STEP INTO THE TEACHERS DUEL, WHERE THE MOST POWERFUL WIZARDS ARE CONCLUDED, THAT THEY WILL NEVER BE AFRAID TO DETERMINE WHO IS THE BEST!

FIGHT! DIE! REPEAT! FIGHT! DIE! REPEAT!

... that's enough to lock up for now.

Some nights you may not like to pull out a huge game that requires hours of hours and another century. This is a game you grab on one of these occasions. Epic Spell Wars belongs to the category of "beer and pretzels", a very easy and fast card game where you can leave all seriousness at the door. Other beer and pretzel titles include Hanabi , King of Tokyo and Boss Monster - though we’ll never stop you from enjoying beer and pretzel. They pretty much go hand in hand with a night of board games.

Epic wizard wars of war wizards. Even the name is insanely fun and really favors you for what you are for.

In the game, you play powerful, corrupt (and killer) wizards who try to kill everyone, even if they kill you in the meantime. What have other wizards ever done to you? Not relevant. Kill and die (in the most epic way) by creating the most deadly combinations of spells. Because that's why you're here.

A brief overview of epic witch wars

"Once upon a time, the world was filled to the brim with radical magic ..."

The most notable thing about Epic Spell Wars is the amazing artwork. So I imagine it would be a sour trip.

The second most notable thing about Epic Spell Wars is the funny text of the taste. Definitely an adult-brand is funny and not suitable for kids, but I guarantee you will laugh at your $$ es while reading the cards.

The best way I can describe it is as if the Adventure Time episode was filmed by the creators of Super Jail. It's so scary / unbelievable. It all depends on your personality, I think.

The art in the first two editions is actually a man named Nick Edwards, a comic book artist and illustrator. His stuff is completely surreal and crazy looking.

The instruction manual and in-game object cards also have the same acid-trippy feel. This game is not taken seriously ... and this is one of the best parts. It's a horrible, chaotic, murderous death race that really borders on the absurd ... and then, as a champion, runs right along that border.

Epic Spell Wars of Battle Wizards: Rumble at Castle Tentakill

Rumble at Castle Tentakill is a sequel to the often extruded original (Duel at Mt. Skullzfyre), released by Cryptozoic Party in 2012. It quickly became one of their biggest hits, especially after appearing on Wil Wheaton’s Tabletop. We like the sequel just as much as the original. This is the kind of game you play when you want to have a good time with your friends before you ruin them terribly.

Melee in Murdershroom Marsh introduces three new keywords to each player’s magical arsenal. In addition, there are additional effects of trips that are activated by card rejection, bad trips that are saved twice with glyph-heavy spells, and treasures that also exist during the deaths of players.

RS Bixby took over the art in this version and replaced regular actor Nick Edwards, who is said to be too busy working for Cartoon Network to contribute to the third part.

The fourth game in the Epic Spell Wars series introduces magically transmitted diseases, a fast-paced match mode, and the debauchery of the next level. Get ready for Crotch Krakens, genital harpies and ... Gorgonorea. Yes. Now you know what you are for. A fair warning: mature topics await. Grab Standee in this, actually do something!

Each version of Epic Spell Wars is completely standalone or can be combined into a massive deck to play the funniest combinations you can think of.

The original version is probably the simplest form and has a huge variety. Each subsequent version will be based on rules and add different types of spells that you can use to kill / liquefy / burn / expel your enemies.

Some will add spells for creatures that stay with you when you call them. They can add a variety of spelling skills or simply use them as meat shields.

Excursions from Murdershroom Marsh allow players to discard additional tickets to upgrade their spells.

If you feel lively, you can always visit the Palace of Pleasures. As you can imagine, it’s full of adult themes. It is literally attached to the pouch. Excellent ...

The large stand in the original version does absolutely nothing. It looks just fine there, and all the other versions give some sort of bonus to control the standee.

Cryptozoic is currently planning to build a deck version based on their Cerberus system. He claims to be compatible with the original game as well. There aren’t many details yet, but Cryptozoic is a longtime veteran in the field of deck building, so I have high expectations.

Unpacking the epic wars of witchcraft

Epic Wizarding Wars of Wizards of War: Duel on Mt. Skullzfyre

Components:

  • 40 Spelling cards
  • 40 Spelling Quality Cards
  • 40 Spelling delivery cards
  • 25 Dead Wizard cards
  • 25 treasure tickets
  • 8 great Hero cards
  • 8 Wild Wild cards
  • 7 Last Wizards Permanent Tokens
  • 6 skull counting tokens
  • 4 Six-sided cubes
  • 1 Rules

Epic Spell Wars is mostly a deck of cards. Whatever version you get, you’ll also notice a large cardboard cutout.

I got one of the previous versions of the game and my cards seemed a bit thin to me. They’re not as heavy as you’d like, and you should wear them backwards. I don’t usually like sleeve games with a lot of cards, but I usually drink when I play that game.

There were some spills ...

My copy is still playable, but I should definitely take better care of it. The quality is fine, but if you’re not careful, you can easily raise or lower some cards.

TAKE SOME LESSONS! (How to play Epic Spell Wars)

Epic Spell Wars of Battle Wizards Board Game

Epic Spell Wars is very easy to learn to play. Any idiot can get into it pretty quickly. In fact, it seems like it’s designed for idiots after how funny everything is.

The spells are in three parts.

  1. source: Beginning
  2. Quality : Medium
  3. Delivery: end

This mix and match mechanic was the first to draw me to the game. With this mechanic you can create strange spells such as:

"Lootzor's Cheese - Mysterious - A Strong Swirl"

Seriously, who thinks of this madness? I assume that technically.

By mixing and matching spells, you can create some devastating spells, or simply choose what sounds cool. Either way, it’s a legitimate strategy. I always play by enabling the dumbest combinations. I even won a few times this way.

If you are more concerned with planning and creating destructive spells, you need to be a little more careful with your spells. In addition to the three parts of the spelling, players can also match magic elements. There are 3 types of items.

  • Mysterious: Has the ability to collect treasure.
  • Dark: Strong spells, but can harm the user.
  • Basic: Pure elemental damage.
  • Illusion: Strategic spells that allow players to choose targets for damage.
  • Original: Call nature to heal or destroy.

Now that you’ve prepared the spell, leave this bad guy.

Spells are resolved from left to right. Simply read the text on the card and perform the action. If there is a list of possible results on the card, it means it is time for the dice. Remember the magic elements? This is where they perform. The more matching items in the spell, the more dice you can roll.

If you matched a spell with three different Arcane elements and need to fold, you will get 3 drill cubes. This increases the chances of a stronger spell effect.

Basically, you get an extra cube for each matching item. Pay attention to spelling skills. Some spells will punish you for not rolling enough and you can certainly end up killing yourself if you are not careful.

WILD MAGIC !!!!

There is an additional card on board called wild magic. Whenever you throw a wild magic card into a spell, you will draw cards from the deck until you find the one allowed for the game. This can be incredibly powerful and can sometimes extend your spell to 4-5 cards. He quickly gets out of control.

Your first Epic Spell Wars game

Epic Spell Wars of Battle Wizards Board Game

You will spend most of your time in the first game reading and laughing cards. This is completely inevitable.

Epic Spell Wars are set to be played in rounds and the losers get a bonus for the next round. My first 3 games lasted so long that when we finished the first round, everyone wanted to move on to the second game or we just ran out of time. It’s a bit overloaded with the senses. Crazy looking artwork and funny abilities are vying for your attention. Sometimes it’s hard to focus on the actual game.

The pros and cons of epic wizarding wars

Epic Spell Wars of Battle Wizards Board Game

Advantages:

  • Amazing works of art
  • Fast play (after the first few rounds)
  • Easy to learn
  • Easy to play

Weaknesses:

  • High levels of randomness
  • Adult topics?
  • Early elimination of a player

I can’t talk enough about how much I love artwork in Epic Spell Wars. There’s so much going on on these cards that it was literally distracting in my first few games in the game. In fact, I was thinking of printing a full-size poster from one of the spells. It would be great in a garage or casino.

The game is relatively fast. Wizards can die very quickly and the more you erase them, the faster the survivors die. It is very easy to learn and can be set up and started quickly.

Randomness

The main complaint I hear about Epic Spell Wars is the extremely large amount of randomness we throw into the game. If you haven’t built a shrine to the RNG gods before playing, you may want to. The main mechanic who determines the effectiveness of spells is based on dice.

Targeting attacks on other players is also random and depends on the cards. Each card has a different goal and can be anything.

  • The weakest player
  • The strongest player
  • Player on the left
  • The player on the right

Being the strongest player is not always good. I’ve seen a lot of games where the strongest player is quickly knocked down to the weakest and then wiped out in one round.

Early elimination of players

This brings me to the next issue with Epic Spell Wars. It is very possible that you are completely destroyed in the first round and there is not much you can do about it. If you die early, you can start drawing a deck of cards that will bring you bonuses for the next round. It can be extra health, items or nothing at all. Once we eliminate it, there isn’t much to do. I like Epic Spell Wars, but I think the early elimination of players is just a bad design. Fortunately, then, they are all likely to die fairly quickly.

An Overview of Epic War Spells (TL; DR)

Epic Spell Wars is a completely top-notch card game.

It does suffer from early player elimination, but rounds need to be played fast enough so players don’t wait too long.

There is a high degree of randomness throughout the game. Attacks and targets are mostly random, but can be targeted to a small extent.

Not for everyone

I’m always excited about playing Epic Spell Wars. At my table, it usually involves a lot of drinking and yelling. My cards are actually coated with a protective beer coating. (You should have spring for the sleeves.)

This game is definitely not for kids. It is intended for a specific fan base. If you’re still laughing at farty and humorous jokes, chances are you’re a target audience.

If vulgarity and stupidity are not your cup of tea, you will have a bad time.

Epic Spell Wars is not taken seriously and neither should you.

It’s a silly and wonderful way to waste some time. If you are looking for any serious gaming, you may want to look elsewhere.

Let me be clear here. I like Epic Spell Wars. I love artwork and every time I played I really enjoyed it. However, there are some players for whom I will not point this out. The younger crowd starts playing Blind Min / Max crew and dice enemies start playing Dominion .

There are a lot of coincidences in the game and there is always that central group of players that they will hate just for that aspect. This is one of the only adult games I own. Apart from the Card Against Humanity , I don't really imagine a (semi) serious board game aimed at an adult audience. That alone causes a lot of hatred.

Follow the golden rule if you’re not sure: Do you laugh at fart and funny jokes?

Yes: Play.
No: Don't play.

Conclusion: a verdict?

Epic Spell Wars is a simple game that can be absolutely stunning.

It’s really a great way to start a gaming session as it’s so fast and very weird. Everything can really put you in a gaming mood.

I honestly never remember playing this game without a beer . The themed elements of the game only require that you have some form of alcohol while playing. In fact, I’ve had a lot of luck playing with friends who don’t usually engage in board games. There’s a lot of text on the cards, but it’s still easy enough to find out that non-players will have fun playing and searching for card artwork to make silly-sounding spells.

I played awful the first time, but I had an amazing time. I didn’t play to win. I was just playing to make the funniest spells we can imagine. In later games, I did well with this strategy, but if you actually want to win, matching the elements of spelling is the key to winning.

He won’t win Game of the Year , but you’ll walk away from the table with a smile on his face and a silly-sounding spell on his lips.
