A brief overview of 13 blind drives

The premise of the game is that rich Aunt Agatha has died without relatives, and now her friends and cat (yes, her cat!) Have to figure out who will get the inheritance before the detective arrives to read the last will! There are a few ways to win - especially through survival.

This is a 2- Five-player game that means you move more than one token at a time and try to trap others! What fun! Above the fireplace is a portrait showing who is the current favorite to win, but the trick is to get out of the house before the portrait changes!

What really sets this game apart from other board games we see today is the way it activates traps. This is a 3D board game where you can physically activate traps and see what happens to the character token. It’s so much fun to see, instead of just imagining it!

Unpacking 13 blind drive

13 Dead Box Drive Board Game Box and board setting

One of the most exciting things about getting a new game is getting it out of the box! The visual style is really classic for the nineties and would definitely bring some memories. You can already see the range of friends that Aunt Agatha had on the box.

There is a 25-year-old turned out to have managed to maintain the style of the game, but using newer materials - think of thicker cardboard and better color printing. In the box you will get the following:

  • Classic rules
  • Character cards
  • Stickers
  • Game board
  • 3D sloping rooms
  • Pieces of plastic traps
  • Playing cards

How to play 13 Blind ride

Setup

Preparing for the game is quite simple, you will need to build a board, as shown in the picture in the rules - puzzle skills required! Then put all the cards in their places. Red chairs are marked as the initial locations of the characters. The detective puts himself at the starting point - he moves each step one space until he finally gets to read the will. This means that the game will have a maximum of 13 turns.

There are cards of traps, characters and portraits that need to be shuffled and placed. Trap cards are drawn as you move around the trap spaces - clearly shown with the skull and crossbones. Once drawn, they don’t need to be played right away. There is some strategy after all necessary!

The portrait cards are shuffled and placed face down so that when the portrait changes, it is completely random and no one has control over it.

Character cards are shuffled and handed out to players until none remain. Character cards must be a secret!

playing

Playing is not complicated at all and a lot of fun! Each player will be in line by rolling two dice. The cubes show how many spaces pedestrians can move - one for each pedestrian dies. The player must move two pedestrians unless he throws a double, in which case he can move one pedestrian with all the points. Oh, and if you throw twins, you can even change the portrait - that’s a lot going on!

Now, the fun and mystery part of the game: when it’s your turn, you can move ANY two pedestrians! With your cards and the moves of other players' pawns, you can try to figure out which character will be the heir! You can even eliminate clones by moving them to trap spaces. The movement of the paws is very similar to Clue - forward and sideways, but never diagonally.

When you move a pawn to a trap, then you pull the trap card and if it matches the trap, you can use it to eliminate the character. If the trap card does not match the trap, you can save it for later. It is important to remember that two cards cannot be drawn in one move, so each card must be used on one pawn before moving on to the actions of the next pawn.

Advantages disadvantages

Advantages:

  • The game board elements are interactive
  • Just the right amount of randomness

What really sets this game apart is the trap element - physical activation and seeing results. You will have so much fun when you activate them, and that feeling is enhanced if you do it to another player!

The element of randomness due to dice and not knowing the identity of other players is just fantastic fun. You never know what will happen next.

Weaknesses:

  • The style of play is somewhat outdated
  • Number of people who can play

The style of this game is quite different from modern games, which is understandable since it was made in 1993. So, if we know that, it may not be to everyone’s liking.

Another small drawback is the number of people who can play - a maximum of four. This would really limit the chances of playing if there are more than 4 people.

Conclusion: a verdict?

Overall, this is a fun and easy game. It has a slight element of stupidity, which makes it a great game for families - families of four or less. Watching traps activate and watching people’s faces when that happens will be a lot of laughter.

Not everyone will like this game and that’s okay. It fits extremely well with the gap of nostalgia and younger families. However, this is not a game that would be presented very easily on the night of playing with friends. It’s a lot of fun and will definitely bring you a smile while playing. It’s also great for Halloween !
