Escape: The Curse of the Temple

Fast, fast and exciting play is all you need for an evening of playing with friends and family. It plays with different levels of difficulty so you can get started easily and add more complexity when everyone feels more comfortable. The good news is that we found just such a game, Escape: The Curse Of The Temple! Trust us, there is no going back.

Ambitious, exciting and fast game played in real time! Read on and check out our comprehensive review of Escape: The Curse Of The Temple.

A brief overview of the escape: The Curse of the Temple

Escape: The Curse of the Temple is a co-op game played by 5 players (Tea 's best are 4 players ). The task is to return the damn gems to the temple and escape before it crashes on you. And remember, you all need to escape the temple in 10 minutes. If no adventurer can escape, you all lose; for now, you all have to live with guilt for the rest of your natural life.

Among the many factors that make this board game essential, the first is that you don’t play it alternately, but as quickly as possible. All players play it at the same time as their set of dice . But while playing your own game, you’ll have to ask or help your adventurers accomplish the task.

Unboxing Escape: The Curse of the Temple

Unpacking the game was super fun. The artwork really reminded me of Indiana Jones Movies .

Inside the box you will find several punch cards to knock out tiles, curse cards and advanced tiles to use in the game. The percussion cards were thick and solid, and the tiles and cards came off without a hitch. In short, the packaging was not only great but also intelligent.

There is also a zipper that contains a lot of evil, green-colored gems.

You will then swim across an ocean of dice . Yes, five dice for each player. (Okay, maybe it's not the ocean ...)

Don’t forget the adventurers! Little wooden meeples that will run across the tiles and try to escape. These characters are 3-D, carved out of wood and look fantastic.

The whole package looks great: solid, beautiful and interesting.

But wait! There is one more thing in the box. This is a game theme CD. It is a 10-minute audio recording that also displays alerts as the timer approaches the deadline. The themed soundtrack is what makes the game panicky, exciting and so very exciting.

How to play Escape: The Curse of the Temple

So finally, here’s how to get started!

# 1: Mission

Return as many gems as possible to the temple and escape before the 10-minute audio recording ends. If you fail in your mission, you will be trapped in the temple forever. Yeah, you weren't lucky.

# 2: Cubes

Each player has five dice , and each stencil has five symbols. They are described below:

  • Damn mask: It's an unfortunate symbol. Whenever the cube shows a damn mask, we set it aside. You can no longer twist this death.
  • Golden Mask: It’s the opposite and you’re in luck if you get it. One gold mask can unlock two damn masks - yours or your partner's. However, you must be in the same room.
  • Red torch or blue key: Both symbols are special. Acquiring these symbols can help you move from room to room, access treasures, or activate gems.
  • Green Adventurer: This happens twice on each cube and helps you move from room to room and activate certain gems.

# 2: How to play- basics

Place the damn gems on a tile called a depot gem.

Now lay the starting tile and one tile on each side. This starting tile is where you will all start your adventure. Each tile is a room with several doors. To enter the room you need to add dice or add a room from the tile stack.

But how exactly would that happen?

Each tile has some symbols marked in the corner of the tile. You have to roll the dice and match these symbols to move forward from this room. Now roll those two dice as soon as you progress.

To add a room and explore the temple, take the next tile from the stack and try to match the symbols of that tile on the corner. When you get them, roll two dice again.

Similarly, you must continue to move the dice and match the symbols on the back of the tile to be able to move forward.

Now you would find several symbols in some rooms that allow you to return the gem to the temple. Roll the dice to get these symbols, and move the gems from the gem storage room to the temple room. You can ask your friends to join you in the room and help you match the symbols.

Pro Tip: The more gems you return to the temple, the faster you escape.

# 3: Conditions at the end of the game

You have to find the exit tile and escape by dragging the blue keys to the exact number of gems left in the gem storage.

Did you forget that 10-minute audio recording? Yes, you have to do all this in 10 minutes or unfortunately you lose.

Advantages disadvantages

Advantages:

  • Creates table socializing.
  • It is a great family game for all ages (8+)
  • It has the option for more advanced games called ‘curses’ and ‘treasures’. So when you’re too comfortable, you can move on to a more sophisticated and fun set of games.

Weaknesses:

  • It can be too chaotic for some.
  • It can be repeated if you play for hours, as the play is not very deep.

As I mentioned, this is a co-op game . There are several moments during the game when you help a friend recover from a correction, which makes you feel excited. Don’t waste time with high fives because you’re in a hurry! Let’s say all five dice of another player show a damn mask and your friend is trapped! Hurry through the board to help them by twisting some gold masks. These and many other moments in the game are based on friendship.

The fast pace of the game also rules out the possibility of alpha gamers, which is a problem with many collaborative games. You don't have time to dictate!

And once you learn the basic games, move on to more advanced gameplay options. However, if you play too many times in a row, this can be predictable. The game, even with such imaginative advanced games, has no depth. So if you are looking for a game with deep logic, this game may not impress you. Due to their fast pace, excitement and lack of depth, they can be suitable for family play.

In short, it depends on the people you want to play the game with. If you’re going to play with family or just need fun without too much scratching your head, you should give it a try.

To some, the game may seem too fast and chaotic. But for the most part, everyone gets used to it after a few exercises.
